08/31/2012 (People Port) Our National Institute of Health's National Institute on Aging (NIA) study contradicts research dating back to the 1930s, Restricting one's diet was thought to increase longevity. There are many explanations.
These diversions of results do happen. NIA researchers also found that while calorie restriction had a beneficial effects, a diet of thirty percent fewer calories -with the same nutrient of a standard diet- did not extend life.
As you may guess, diabetes, heart disease... were lower, somewhat. The benefits may show in the diets of the young. This study's findings could have a major impact on firms seeking to leverage our survival gene.
In a press release, NIA Director Richard J. Hodes, M.D. said, "These results suggest the complexity of how calorie restriction may work in the body. "Calorie restriction’s effects likely depend on a variety of factors, including environment, nutritional components and genetics."
